Weather update: Met office predicts extended cold wave in Karachi
Karachi has finally started to experience chilly nights as winter settles into the city. According to the Meteorological Department, light fog has blanketed parts of the city, reducing visibility to 4 kilometers.
Last night, the temperature dropped to a chilly 11.5°C, while today’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 28°C. Humidity levels are around 36%, adding to the crispness in the air.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and humid weather in most districts of Sindh over the next 24 hours.
Nationwide, the PMD predicts dry weather and cold waves will persist. Light fog is also expected during the night in southern Punjab and upper Sindh.
Quetta and nearby regions in Balochistan remain gripped by an intense cold wave despite clear skies. Temperatures have dropped sharply, with Quetta recording -4°C and Kalat facing an even colder -6°C.
The severe cold has affected northern and interior districts, with mountainous areas enduring extreme weather conditions. The freezing temperatures have compounded challenges for residents, particularly in Quetta, Kalat, and Ziarat, where low gas pressure has made it difficult to stay warm.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted cold and dry weather for most districts of Balochistan, with extremely frigid conditions persisting in mountainous areas. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during this cold spell.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has forecast a rain-deficient and dry winter for the province. He stated that below-average rainfall is expected this season, with little to no rain likely in December. Residents may need to brace for prolonged dry and cold conditions.
