The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had stated that they would reopen once foolproof security arrangements were in place.Following their sudden closure, traders' goods, including garments, jackets, shoes, household utensils, hosiery, cosmetics, toys and plasticware, remained locked inside the stalls. However, during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, between 2am and 3am, the entire G-10 Sunday Bazaar was bulldozed, effectively ending its existence permanently.
Goods worth millions of rupees belonging to traders were also destroyed. When residents reached the site in the morning, they found the entire bazaar demolished, with goods, tents, makeshift shops and iron railings scattered across the area. The stallholders condemned the sudden demolition of their shops, saying they should have been given an opportunity to remove their belongings.
They said their lifetime savings had been destroyed.Stallholders Idrees Ahmed and Iqbal said they were informed at around 10am on Thursday that the Sunday Bazaar stalls and kiosks had been completely demolished.
When they reached the site, they found that none of their belongings had survived. They said the CDA's anti-encroachment team had demolished all the kiosks, stalls and shops during the operation.
Around 1,000 kiosks, makeshift shops, carts and pushcarts had been operating there, providing them with a source of livelihood against regular payment of rent.Throughout Thursday, stallholders searched through the remains of the demolished bazaar for whatever goods, toys and garments they could recover.
