Retired senior officers of the Pakistan Army on Thursday filed an application in a Rawalpindi accountability court, seeking permission to meet the incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder at Central Jail Adiala.
The four applicants include Major General (retd) Masood Burki, Lieutenant General (retd) Zahid Akbar, Lieutenant General (retd) Sikandar Afzal, and Lieutenant General (retd) Farooq Khan.
The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism since his ouster from power via the opposition’s no-trust motion in April 2022.
In their plea, filed through Advocate Ahsan Ayaz Khan, the army officers cited that they had a long association with the PTI founder.
“It is necessary to meet the PTI founder to discuss some important matters,” said the retired army officers.
Seeking permission to meet the former prime minister, they urged the court to arrange their meeting with Khan as soon as possible to discuss “important national issues”, they added.
The petition was filed before the court of ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah.
