Alice and Steve are getting another round of chaos.
Disney+ has renewed the darkly funny series for a second season, bringing back the messy friendship and even messier relationship drama that had viewers arguing online.
Created and written by Canneseries winner Sophie Goodhart, the series stars Nicola Walker as Alice and Jemaine Clement as Steve.
Season one followed Alice’s nightmare scenario: her best friend begins dating her 26-year-old daughter, Izzy.
What starts as a personal crisis quickly turns into an all-out battle as Alice tries to break them up — only to discover Steve isn’t exactly willing to surrender his relationship without a fight.
Walker was immediately drawn to the unusual premise.
“I phoned my agent and went, ‘Please, please, I want to do this,’” Walker told The Hollywood Reporter during season one’s production.
“It’s a very unusual tone. We keep talking about that. And when you get it, it feels amazing. So, I think what Sophie’s done is written something very, very, very funny, but then it can go really sad, and it’s sort of brutally honest at times.”
Now, Goodhart is promising that season two will crank up the unpredictability.
“I’m thrilled,” she said. “No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve.”
Petra Fried, joint managing director at Clerkenwell Films, said the team is equally excited to revisit the show’s complicated central duo.
“We absolutely love Alice and Steve, both the show and, of course, the two characters at the heart of Sophie’s brilliantly messy, funny and fearless exploration of friendship and love. We’re thrilled to be bringing it back for a second season and can’t wait for audiences to see what Sophie has in store for our favourite frenemies.”
With season two officially happening, one question remains: who’s going to lose it first — Alice or Steve?
