Georgina Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo’s wedding looks were a nod to the beginnings of their love story 10 years ago.
The football star, 41, and the model, 32, tied the knot on Tuesday, August 11, in an intimate ceremony at their £30M mansion in Cacais, Portugal, with only their five children and an additional four witnesses in attendance.
Speaking to Vogue ahead of the nuptials, the now-newlyweds opened up about the deep symbolism behind their wedding, from the date to their wedding looks.
On August 11, 2016 — exactly 10 years before their wedding — Ronaldo walked into a Gucci store on the Calle Serrano in Madrid and laid his eyes upon Rodriguez, who was working there as a sales assistant.
So, it only made sense that they would turn to Gucci for their wedding looks as well: Rodriguez in a silk skirt suit and Ronaldo in a light beige cotton suit.
“It felt incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment, knowing their love story began in a Gucci store in Madrid,” Gucci’s artistic director, Demna, told the publication. “There is something so romantic about it — a beautiful circle closing, almost like a modern fairy tale.”
Rodriguez had full faith in Demna, noting, “He’s not going to dress us up. I didn’t want us to go into a day that was so simple for us in costumes.”
After the wedding, Rodriguez told Vogue, “It was exactly as I’d imagined it. Intimate, full of love, and with our family in the most important starring role.”
