Greta Gerwig’s Barbie ended up becoming a cultural phenomenon after its release in 2023, but a sequel seems to be less than likely at present.

The movie stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, as well as the creators Greta Gerwig and her creative team have reportedly declines Warner Bros’ six offers so far.

According to reports, the film needs to enter the development phase within four months if a sequel is to be made, otherwise the rights revert back to Mattel. In that case, the franchise would need a reboot, and would stand on its own with no connection to Gerwig’s film.

Social media users flocked together and wrote, “Warner Bros is known for being a greedy corporation who won’t pay their actors what they’re worth. I’m proud of Ryan and Margot and the rest for knowing their worth. No sequel is needed. It seems like the WB want it more than the crew.”

Another agreed, “good. 1 was already ok,” and “or mattel could just leave it as is… greta’s barbie is perfectly fine and doesn’t NOT need a reheated nachos reboot,” wrote one.

More added, “everyone saying we don’t need a sequel but i want oneeeee,” and “tbh if Greta Gerwig made a sequel it’d be fire but not really needed lmao.”
