The Office’ star Lucy Davis reveals she has incurable stage 4 cancer

Lucy Davis, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the UK version of The Office, has revealed she has incurable cancer.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the 53-year-old actress told her followers she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones, after first discovering a lump.

Davis described approaching her diagnosis with humour rather than fear.

“As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard. The thing that has been most vital to me is humour. I asked my friends and family to make fun of me as much as possible (which they’re really good at), and most importantly of all to not treat me like a sick person.”

She also gave a candid account of the disease’s physical toll, noting that the pain “can really be something else” and that she sometimes needs a wheelchair when standing or walking for extended periods, telling followers, “if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!”

She closed her statement with a message of acceptance: “I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it.”

Davis broke through in the UK with The Office and an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice before finding success in the U.S. on Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Disney Channel’s The Villains of Valley View, along with film roles in Shaun of the Dead and Wonder Woman.
