ISLAMABAD: General Syed Aamer Raza has been honoured with the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) as President Asif Ali Zardari approved the prestigious award for the newly appointed Commander National Strategic Command.
The recognition comes shortly after General Raza’s promotion to the rank of four-star general and his appointment to lead the strategic command.
The President’s Secretariat confirmed the decision on Friday through a post on the social media platform X, stating that the president had approved the conferment of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) upon General Syed Aamer Raza.
“ The president has approved conferring Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Gen Syed Aamer Raza, the commander of the National Strategic Command,” the statement said.

General Aamer Raza was promoted to the rank of four-star general on July 24 after serving as the Chief of the General Staff of the Pakistan Army. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced his promotion along with his appointment as Commander National Strategic Command.
The prime minister congratulated General Raza on his promotion and new responsibility, wishing him success in carrying out the important assignment.

General Raza has previously been awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-i-Basalat for his services. Before his current appointment, he served as Corps Commander Lahore and Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila.

The position of Commander National Strategic Command was introduced after the passage of the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy (Amendment) Bills 2025, which brought changes to Pakistan’s military command structure.
Under the new framework, Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed as the Chief of Defence Forces, while the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was discontinued.
General Shamshad Mirza was the last officer to serve as CJCSC before the position was abolished.
According to the amended law, the prime minister has the authority to appoint the Commander National Strategic Command from among serving Pakistan Army generals. The appointment is made for a three-year tenure on the recommendation of the Chief of Army Staff, who also holds the position of Chief of Defence Forces.
The conferment of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) highlights General Aamer Raza’s continued military service as he assumes leadership of the newly established strategic command.
His appointment marks an important development in Pakistan’s updated military command structure following recent changes introduced through the amended legislation.
