Pakistani mountaineer and trail runner Anum Uzair has achieved another milestone by becoming the first Pakistani to win the 100-kilometer Galiyat Mountain Trail Ultra Marathon, one of the country’s toughest endurance races.

The ultramarathon challenges runners with rugged mountain trails, dense forests and the constant possibility of encountering wildlife. Despite the difficult conditions, Anum completed the race with determination, demonstrating remarkable endurance and resilience.

Anum dedicated her victory to the women of Pakistan, especially female runners. She said she hopes to continue representing Pakistan on the international stage by taking on more unique and demanding challenges in the future.

Anum admitted the ultramarathon was a risky challenge and said she knew from the beginning that it would not be easy.

She said there was a risk of lightning during the race, comparing it to the danger of snowstorms in mountaineering. She added that wildlife was another major concern throughout the event.

According to Anum, both mountaineering and trail running involve risks, although the challenges are different.

She recalled an incident while training for a 40-kilometer run when she spotted a leopard sitting about 200 feet ahead on the trail.

Anum Uzair said the experience helped her overcome her fears, and over time she became fearless.

She said that once she overcame her fear, she focused completely on her goal and achieved it.

Comparing mountaineering with trail running, Anum said the two sports offer completely different experiences.

She said the challenges and dangers of mountaineering are different from those of trail running.

Anum also said trail-running events require less time, making it easier for her to balance her passion for the sport with her responsibilities as a mother.

She added that spending three days at such an event is manageable.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining year-round fitness, Anum said she works out every day because fitness is important for everyone, whether they compete professionally or not.

She said she trains throughout the year and can climb up to 100 flights of stairs as part of her regular fitness routine to stay prepared for every new challenge.
