Carlton has been involved in the creative process to make sure the illustrations match her vision for the characters and storyline.

LOS ANGELES: Author H.D. Carlton is expanding her popular dark romance series “Haunting Adeline” with a new line of adult graphic novels, bringing her bestselling characters to a visual format while debate continues over the upcoming film adaptation.

Carlton has partnered with Deviant Ink publishing to transform “Haunting Adeline” and its sequel, “Hunting Adeline,” into illustrated graphic novels. The first volume is expected to arrive in late 2026, featuring artwork by illustrator J.B. Roe.

The author said the graphic novel series will give fans a new way to experience the story while staying close to the original books. Carlton added that she has been involved in the creative process to make sure the illustrations match her vision for the characters and storyline. “I’ve always wanted to see these characters brought to life visually,” Carlton said.

The announcement comes as the planned movie adaptation of “Haunting Adeline” continues to face criticism because of the novel’s dark themes. Carlton recently defended the upcoming film in an Instagram video, saying fictional stories should not be restricted because of controversial subjects. She also confirmed that the movie project is still moving forward.

Released in 2021, “Haunting Adeline” became a major success on BookTok and gained a large online following. The novel focuses on writer Adeline Reilly and her complicated connection with Zade Meadows, a vigilante character whose actions and relationship with Adeline have led to debate among readers and critics.

The upcoming graphic novels are designed for adult audiences and will keep the mature themes that made the original books both successful and controversial. Carlton and Deviant Ink said the adaptation will remain faithful to the source material rather than removing the elements that shaped the series.
