Google may be working on a fix: a hidden Gemini connector that can handle your eSIM for you.The newly added SIM Manager connector is visible in Gemini’s app list on a Pixel 9 device that is running on Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 along with the Google app version 17.70.10.sa.arm64, as per the APK teardown from Android Authority.
This has been added inadvertently by Google as of now.The connector appears to be built on Google's SIM Manager app, which downloads and manages carrier profiles so you don't need a physical SIM card.
According to the connector's details page, Gemini will be able to:Android Authority tried one of the suggested prompts, and Gemini started the eSIM setup process.
So this isn't just placeholder text.On this page, the rules followed by Gemini are also revealed.
The app cannot alter your billing plan or access your carrier's call history.
It will not activate an eSIM that is already installed on your device. When requesting Gemini to migrate the eSIM from one device to another, you are supposed to be notified that migration should be initiated from your new device.
The company is instructed not to accept ambiguous statements such as "set up my SIM".
This is because "SIM" without a modifier can refer to a physical card, which is not supported by this connector; therefore, you will have to say "eSIM".At present, the feature works only with the Pixel 9.
According to Android Authority, the app was not found on a OnePlus 13R or Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, so perhaps it is available only for Pixels at this time.
It was discovered in the Android 17 QPR3 release scheduled to stabilise in March 2027.
Gemini eSIM setup: Google's AI may soon do it for you October 28, 2026.
