It could lead globally 8 out of 14 key strategic industries, including large language models, as per analysts.

By 2030, China could become the global leader in developing large language models and other key technologies.China will also compete via software optimization, lower AI deployment costs, and increased competitiveness in essential AI hardware such as chips, optical networking equipment.US companies are not far behind.

As per experts’ analysis, the US is expected to retain a slight edge in developing the most advanced AI models.According to BI, neither China nor the US is expected to achieve complete technological dominance.

In fact both will hold strong positions in AI.China is also poised to lead in EVs, energy storage systems, biopharmaceuticals, humanoid robotics and certain areas of shipbuilding.

Another critical area where China will probably be leader is semiconductor manufacturing, but it is unlikely to achieve complete self-sufficiency.China has caught up with the US in overall Research and Development (R&D) spending.

But the future outlook is not all rosy due to China’s economic deceleration and tech advances will not fully offset it.GDP growth is projected to average 3.6% annually over the next decade.

While AI and automation will help reduce a shrinking workforce and real estate downturn, they won't halt the long-term economic slowdown.Other challenges include intense price-cutting and US tariffs, restricting access to key markets and key ingredients.

However, BI analysts expect this will reshape the geographic footprint of China’s expansion rather than stop it entirely.
