The 41-year-old Duke of Sussex said he was delighted that Daejeon, South Korea, will host the 2029 Invictus Games, which support wounded, injured and sick service members and military veterans.

Announcing the decision Monday as the founding patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, Harry said selecting South Korea as the first Asian host marks an important milestone for the movement. He added that the foundation looks forward to working with the host city and believes the Games will help more wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans benefit from the power of sports and the support of the Invictus community.

Daejeon was selected after a competitive international bidding process. It is South Korea’s fifth-largest city and has a population of about 1.5 million.

The Games will be held from October 6-15, 2029, and will feature 12 sports. About 550 competitors from 26 countries are expected to take part, accompanied by about 1,100 family members and friends.

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in London in 2014. According to the Invictus Games Foundation, the competition aims to challenge perceptions of disability, promote adaptive sports and highlight the resilience and determination of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.

The next Invictus Games will be held in Birmingham in 2027. Earlier this month, Prince Harry visited the United Kingdom for events marking one year until the competition.

During the visit, he reunited with his father, King Charles. According to the report, it was the first time Harry’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, had seen their grandfather since 2022.
