Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major education reform package, including the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence in every tehsil and the provision of 100,000 free electric bikes to students across the province.

Addressing a ceremony in Arifwala on Thursday, the chief minister said the Punjab government is transforming public schools into modern educational institutions where students from all backgrounds can access quality education and equal opportunities.

She also announced that 100,000 laptops and 50,000 merit-based scholarships will be provided to deserving students, describing education as a key tool for reducing social inequalities and empowering youth.

Maryam Nawaz said the government has allocated Rs40 billion to upgrade public schools across Punjab, with improvements including new classrooms, furniture, clean drinking water, bathrooms, fans and other essential facilities.

She added that science, technology, mathematics, computer and IT laboratories are being established, while artificial intelligence (AI) labs will also be introduced to prepare students for future challenges. She encouraged students to develop skills in AI, machine learning and robotics, calling them essential for future careers.

Highlighting student safety and accessibility, the chief minister said the government is expanding the network of green electric buses to provide safe transportation facilities for students.

She also urged parents to remain cautious during the rainy season following the death of 14 children in a roof collapse incident at an under-construction building, expressing grief over the tragedy and stressing the importance of child safety.

Maryam Nawaz said the Nawaz Sharif School of Eminence initiative has received a strong response, with 5,000 students appearing for admission tests for only 1,000 seats.

She announced that the government plans to establish 300 modern schools across Punjab, aiming to provide students with advanced learning facilities comparable to leading private institutions.

“Education is the greatest equalising force,” she said, adding that modern education and skills development will create new opportunities for Punjab’s youth.
