Iran reports explosions on Kish and Qeshm island amid Hormuz tensions escalate

U.S. warplanes carried out airstrikes on targets on Iran’s Kish Island, while explosions were also reported on Qeshm Island, according to Arab and Iranian media.

The strikes reportedly targeted vessels anchored at Kish port, marking a further escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran after the ceasefire collapsed. Iranian media also reported explosions in Kuwait, although no further details were immediately available.

The latest attacks come as fighting between the United States and Iran has intensified in the Gulf region. The escalation followed the U.S. decision to impose a 20% tax on cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, after which Iran responded by restricting shipping through the waterway. Iran’s military rejected the U.S. announcement, saying the strait “cannot be reopened through war, hostility and American aggression.”

Earlier, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, said the memorandum of understanding was no longer valid. He accused the United States of entering the war and violating all parts of the agreement. At the same time, Kuwait’s military said missile and drone attacks targeted U.S. military installations in the country. The military said it was responding to aerial threats and had engaged hostile targets in Kuwaiti airspace.

The growing conflict has raised concerns about a wider regional war, with the United States and Iran exchanging threats and military strikes. U.S. President Donald Trump warned of a strong response if Iran attempted to assassinate him, while Iranian officials said they would respond to any U.S. “adventurism.” The international community has called for restraint. China urged the restoration of safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United Nations warned that continued attacks could have “catastrophic consequences.”

The latest escalation has also prompted Britain to oppose Trump’s proposal to impose tolls or charges on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, reflecting growing international concern about a broader conflict. As military strikes continue between the United States and Iran, tensions across the region remain high, and the risk of further escalation remains. The coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether diplomacy can ease the crisis or whether the conflict will expand further.
