The Punjab Transport Department has introduced five dedicated buses for women on Lahore’s Metro Bus Service to improve safety and reduce overcrowding during peak travel hours.

According to the Transport and Mass Transit Department, five Speedo buses have been temporarily deployed on the Metro Bus route exclusively for female passengers. The initiative aims to provide women with a safer and more comfortable commuting experience.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the decision was made to protect women from harassment during rush hour and help them travel with greater confidence.

He said the initiative was implemented immediately on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz by adding the Speedo buses to the Metro Bus fleet.

The minister said the current arrangement is temporary, while the government plans to purchase new Metro buses that will be permanently reserved for women in the future.

Bilal Akbar Khan said providing safe and dignified public transportation for women remains one of the Punjab chief minister’s top priorities. He added that the government is also considering additional measures to further improve safety and convenience for female passengers across the province’s public transportation network.
