GILGIT: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has officially announced the results of the general elections, issuing notifications for successful candidates in 21 out of 24 constituencies, in a closely watched political contest across the region.
According to the final tally, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged as the leading political force with nine seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with six seats, while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) secured four seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) claimed one seat, and one independent candidate also won a constituency.
The ECGB confirmed that results for GBA-9 Skardu-3, GBA-15 Diamer-1, and GBA-17 Diamer-3 will be announced later, while notifications for the remaining constituencies have already been issued.
In Gilgit, PPP’s Amjad Hussain secured victory from GBA-1 Gilgit-1, while PML-N’s Hafeezur Rehman won GBA-2 Gilgit-2. Independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas caused a notable upset by clinching GBA-3 Gilgit-3.
PPP also strengthened its position in Nagar, where Muhammad Ali Akhtar won GBA-4 Nagar-1 and Zulfiqar Ali Murad secured GBA-5 Nagar-2. In Hunza, Nek Nam Karim emerged victorious from GBA-6 Hunza.
In Skardu, PPP maintained momentum as Syed Tauqeer Mehdi won GBA-7 Skardu-1. MWM’s Muhammad Kazim claimed GBA-8 Skardu-2, while PPP further added seats through Nasir Ali Khan in GBA-10 Skardu-4, Iqbal Hassan in GBA-11 Kharmang, and Imran Nadeem in GBA-12 Shigar.

From Astore, PML-N candidates Rana Farman Ali and Rana Muhammad Farooq secured GBA-13 Astore-1 and GBA-14 Astore-2 respectively. IPP’s Imam Malik won GBA-16 Diamer-2, while PML-N’s Malik Kifayatur Rehman captured GBA-18 Diamer-4.
In Ghizer, PPP’s Syed Jalal Ali Shah won GBA-19 Ghizer-1, PML-N’s Abdul Jehan secured GBA-20 Ghizer-2, and IPP’s Aman Ali took GBA-21 Ghizer-3.
In Ghanche, PML-N’s Muhammad Ibrahim Sanai won GBA-22 Ghanche-1, while IPP candidates Anwar Ali and Asad Shafiq secured GBA-23 Ghanche-2 and GBA-24 Ghanche-3.
The elections, held on June 7, were marked by a delay in final results as the ECGB awaited outcomes from partial re-polling in selected polling stations, following complaints from several political parties regarding alleged irregularities and counting procedures.
The situation led to heightened political attention as PPP, PTI, and JUI-F raised concerns over transparency, prompting the election authorities to order re-polling in specific polling stations across five constituencies instead of annulling entire results.
Officials said the move was aimed at addressing localized concerns while ensuring the broader electoral process reached a timely and credible conclusion, bringing clarity to a closely contested political landscape in Gilgit-Baltistan.
