Google tests “Disco” AI browser that turns tabs into smart apps

Google is testing a new AI powered browsing system called Google Disco, designed to make browsing more organized and useful.

Instead of keeping many tabs open, the tool can turn them into smart, task based applications that help users complete their work more easily.

The system is developed by Google labs and uses the Gemini 3 AI model. It studies the user’s open tabs and browsing activity to understand what they are trying to do. After that, it builds a simple interactive app based on that goal, rather than just showing normal web pages.

A key feature called Gen-Tabs allows the browser to create custom tools like travel planners, study guides, and dashboards. For example, if someone is planning a trip, it can combine flight and hotel information into one organized travel plan with maps and prices. Users can also adjust these tools using simple text commands.

Unlike normal AI tools that only give summaries, Google Disco creates working interfaces that users can interact with. It also links back to original websites so users can check the source information easily. This helps keep the process clear and reliable.

The project is currently in early testing and is only available to a small group of users on macOS through a waitlist. Google says this experiment is part of its effort to explore how AI can change the way people use browsers in the future, and similar features may appear in products like Chrome later on.

The launch arrives as competition in artificial intelligence continues to intensify. Rivals are racing to integrate AI into every part of the digital experience, including web browsing.
