The United States Mission in Pakistan hosted a vibrant and high-profile “Freedom 250” celebration in Islamabad, marking 250 years of American democracy while highlighting the deep-rooted and evolving partnership between the United States and Pakistan.

The event forms part of a year-long global series of commemorations leading up to the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence. It brought together a diverse and influential gathering of Pakistani society, including senior government officials, business leaders, academics, civil society members, and prominent cultural and sports figures, reflecting the expanding scope of bilateral engagement.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, addressing the ceremony, underscored the historical significance of the milestone and reaffirmed the shared values of liberty, democracy, and cooperation that continue to define US–Pakistan relations. She noted that the partnership, spanning nearly eight decades, remains dynamic and forward-looking across multiple sectors.

“Tonight, we celebrate 250 years of American freedom, nearly 80 years of friendship between our two peoples, and everything we are going to build together in the years ahead. The best is not behind us. It is in front of us, and we are going to get there together,” Baker said.

The ceremony carried a formal diplomatic and cultural tone, beginning with the presentation of colours by the US Marine Corps Colour Guard, followed by the national anthems of both Pakistan and the United States, which set a respectful and ceremonial atmosphere.

The evening also featured engaging cultural performances, including a musical presentation by the US Air Force Central Command Band alongside Pakistani singer Bilal Saeed, highlighting artistic collaboration and people-to-people connections.

Prominent personalities such as Lahore Qalandars owner Atif Rana and Pakistan cricket team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi also attended, adding a strong sporting and public dimension to the event.

The celebration concluded with a spectacular fireworks display over the Islamabad skyline, symbolizing shared aspirations for a stronger and more cooperative future.

“Freedom 250” is part of a global initiative by US diplomatic missions to commemorate American independence under the theme “A New Era of American Greatness,” observed across embassies and consulates worldwide.
