He also spoke about the history of UN peacekeeping missions. He said the day marks the establishment of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), the first UN peacekeeping mission that started operations in Palestine in 1948.

Shehbaz Sharif said more than two million people have served in over 70 UN peacekeeping missions across the world. He added that Pakistan remains one of the largest and longest serving contributors to these missions.

He said, “Since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 UN peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women peacekeepers. It is a matter of immense national pride that Pakistan today stands as the fifth largest contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations.”
