ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated King Abdullah II of Jordan and the people of the Hashemite Kingdom on their Independence Day. He conveyed good wishes on behalf of Pakistan and said both countries share long standing friendly relations based on trust, respect, and shared values.

The President said Pakistan and Jordan continue to work closely on regional and global issues. He expressed confidence that the strong relationship between the two countries will grow further in the coming years.

He also recalled King Abdullah’s visit to Pakistan in November 2025, saying it helped improve cooperation and strengthened bilateral ties.

During their recent meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, both leaders discussed ways to improve economic relations.

They agreed on the importance of early progress on a Free Trade Agreement and the need to hold the next round of talks soon. President Zardari also called for the early meeting of the Joint Ministerial Commission to expand cooperation in trade, investment, and other sectors.

The President thanked Jordan for its support in Pakistan’s election to a non permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council.

He also appreciated Jordan’s assistance during floods in Sindh and its continued support in difficult times. He said Pakistan values its strong partnership with Jordan, especially in economic development and trade opportunities.

Both leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East. President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause and called for a just and lasting peace.

He stressed the need to respect sovereignty, avoid interference, and promote stability in the region. He also highlighted Pakistan’s interest in a peaceful Afghanistan and regional cooperation. King Abdullah praised Pakistan’s role in fighting terrorism and welcomed stronger ties between the two countries.

He also supported deeper cooperation in economic areas. The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s ambassador, where further discussions were held on investment opportunities and global cooperation platforms like the World Economic Forum.
