Karachi-based newly established airline South Air is set to commence its test flight operations today, marking an important step toward enhancing domestic tourism and improving regional air connectivity across Pakistan.
According to sources, the airline’s inaugural test flight will operate from Karachi to Gwadar and Quetta, using ATR aircraft for its initial domestic operations. The test phase is aimed at evaluating operational readiness and route feasibility.
South Air had earlier obtained a TPRI licence from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), allowing it to initiate tourism-focused aviation services within the country.
Sources further revealed that the airline is planning an extensive domestic network connecting major and secondary cities, including Multan, Gwadar, Turbat, Quetta, Karachi, Sukkur, and Rahim Yar Khan, as part of its expansion strategy.
In addition, South Air has reportedly submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Authority seeking an RPT (Regular Public Transport) airline licence, which would allow it to formally operate scheduled passenger flights.
Positioning itself as a next-generation domestic carrier, South Air aims to make air travel more accessible, efficient, and affordable, particularly for underserved regions.
The airline’s strategy focuses on bridging connectivity gaps by linking smaller cities and towns with major economic hubs, rather than concentrating solely on large metropolitan routes.
