    Selected bank branches to stay open for tax collection: SBP

    ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that selected commercial bank branches across the country will remain open today and tomorrow to facilitate taxpayers and ensure the timely collection of government duties and taxes.

    According to a statement issued by the SBP’s External Communications Department, the decision has been taken on the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to streamline revenue collection processes.

    The statement said that all commercial bank branches which normally operate on Saturdays, along with designated branches of the National Bank of Pakistan handling customs collections, will remain open on 23 and 24 May 2026 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

    To facilitate taxpayers in making over-the-counter payment of Government duties and taxes, it has been decided that Saturday opening branches of all commercial banks shall remain open from 09:00 A.M. to 03:00 P.M. on Saturday & Sunday i.e. May 23 & 24, 2026.     The State Bank further directed banks to ensure that related branches remain operational on Sunday, 24 May, until the completion of special clearing operations through NIFT (National Institutional Facilitation Technologies) for government transactions.

    In addition, banks have been instructed to maintain uninterrupted availability of digital banking services, including internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs, and other electronic payment channels, to facilitate taxpayers and ensure smooth online transactions without disruption.
