Court sends alleged drug dealer ‘Pinky’ to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI: A Karachi court on Friday ordered alleged narcotics trafficker Anmol, known as Pinky, to be held on judicial remand after her physical remand expired, transferring custody of the suspect to jail in connection with more than a dozen cases, including drug trafficking, weapons possession and murder.

The order covers at least 15 active criminal cases registered against her across multiple Karachi police stations, including narcotics cases filed at the Baghdadi, Gizri, Darakhshan and Specialized Investigation Unit police stations, a murder charge, and approximately 10 previously filed drug cases.

Anmol was produced before judicial magistrates at the Judicial Complex inside Central Jail under tight security. Prosecutors requested an extension of her physical remand for further interrogation across all matters. The courts rejected each request.

Instead, magistrates ordered that Anmol be moved to jail on a 14-day judicial remand and directed investigating officers to submit finalized charge sheets upon completion of their inquiries.

Judicial remand transfers a suspect’s custody from police to the court, meaning the accused is held in jail rather than in police detention. The court retains oversight of the case while investigators complete their work.

Earlier, Session court ordered that all legal proceedings against alleged drug trafficker Anmol, widely known as “Pinky,” will now take place inside the Central Jail Complex.

Additional Sessions Judge Zahoor Ahmed Hakro issued this order on Monday. He said authorities must not bring the accused to City Courts due to serious security concerns.

The judge directed officials to set up a temporary court inside the Central Jail Complex, local media reported.

He also ordered that a judicial magistrate must personally visit the jail to oversee remand and other proceedings.

The court instructed authorities to carry out all future hearings under strict security inside the prison until further notice.
