Expanded system now includes 169 drinking fountains and nearly 14,892 Zamzam water dispensers.

Saudi authorities have expanded the Zamzam water distribution system at the Grand Mosque to meet the increasing needs of pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season.

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque said the plan focuses on increasing service points, improving the efficiency of water fountains, reducing waste, and providing faster service while maintaining high standards across the mosque and its courtyards.

According to the report, the expanded system now includes 169 drinking fountains and nearly 14,892 Zamzam water dispensers placed daily, along with the distribution of more than 2.1 million cups every day. Daily Zamzam water consumption has reached 1,622 cubic metres, supported by 70 safety and quality inspections each day.

Authorities said they have also improved system management by studying demand at key service areas to ensure smooth and uninterrupted services.

The initiative is part of wider efforts to improve the experience of pilgrims by reducing crowding around water stations and helping visitors move more easily within the mosque. Officials added that the project also supports long-term sustainability by reducing waste and encouraging responsible water use.
