KARACHI: Pakistan’s information technology exports rose 33% in April compared with the same month a year earlier, reaching $423 million, according to official data released Monday.

IT exports for the first 10 months of the current fiscal year climbed 21% to $3.8 billion, up from the same period in fiscal year 2025.

An analyst at Topline Securities said while the government has set a target of $5 billion for FY26, IT exports are expected to grow by 18-20% during the year to $4.5 billion vs. FY25 exports of $3.8 billion.

“Under ‘Uraan Pakistan’ national economic plan, the government has also set an FY29 target of $10 billion IT exports. This implies a target CAGR of 27% till FY29.”

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the country’s IT exports are expected to surpass $4.5 billion by the end of the current fiscal year. She added that the government aims to increase IT exports to $25 billion over the next five years.

In March 2026, IT services exports totaled $413 million, a 20% increase from $344 million in March 2025.

Khawaja noted that technology freelancer exports, which are included in IT services remittance inflows, surged 51% to $856.3 million during the July-March 2026 period, compared with $567.5 million in the same period last year. Freelancer exports stood at $779.2 million in fiscal year 2024-25.

The government is taking major steps to improve digital connectivity and expand telecom infrastructure nationwide, the minister said. Spectrum availability has been expanded by 480 megahertz, an increase of more than 200% compared with previous resources, a move that would place Pakistan among the leading countries in spectrum capacity.

The spectrum auction is expected to significantly improve telecom service quality, with average 4G internet speeds projected to increase from 4 Mbps to nearly 20 Mbps, while initial 5G services could provide speeds of up to 50 Mbps, Khawaja said. The rollout of 5G services will begin progressively from provincial capitals and later expand to other cities.

Alluding to the recent spectrum auction, the minister said 4G service will improve, and 5G will be available in the federal capital and the four provincial capitals within the next few months.
