PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has announced summer vacations for educational institutions in the province’s plain areas, officials said on Monday.

According to education department sources, the holidays will be observed from May 22 to August 31, 2026.

Officials said the original schedule had planned summer vacations in the plain areas from June 1 to August 31, but the dates were advanced due to Eid holidays and consecutive weekly off days falling on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They added that summer vacation schedules for both plain and colder mountainous regions have already been issued separately.

In the colder mountainous districts of the province, summer vacations will be observed from July 1 to July 31, 2026, according to education officials.

Earlier, Sindh Education Department announced that summer vacations for schools in the province will be observed from June 1 to July 31.

In a statement, officials said the decision would apply to all public and private schools across the province.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that school holidays will begin earlier, from May 22, and will continue until August 23, giving students a break of more than three months.

The announcements have brought relief to students and teachers as the country is experiencing intense heat, with temperatures expected to stay high in the coming days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and windstorms may affect different parts of the country in the coming months.

It also said that rising temperatures could lead to strong winds, dust storms, and hailstorms, which may damage seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards.
