MIRPUR: Bangladesh’s batters produced a strong and composed batting display on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan national cricket team, putting their side in a commanding position at stumps in Mirpur.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bowl first, but Bangladesh recovered strongly despite an early setback of two wickets for just 31 runs.

Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy (8) and Shadman Islam (13) were dismissed early, but a crucial third-wicket partnership of 170 runs between Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto turned the match in Bangladesh’s favour.

Shanto scored a solid 101 before being dismissed, while Mominul Haque continued his innings with 91 runs. He later added another valuable 75-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim for the fourth wicket.

By the end of day one, Bangladesh reached 301 for 4, firmly in control of the match.

For Pakistan national cricket team, the wickets were shared evenly, with Hassan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Muhammad Abbas, and Noman Ali taking one wicket each.

Bangladesh will look to build on their strong start on day two, while Pakistan will aim for early breakthroughs to restrict the total.

    Babar Azam Injury Update

Injury concerns surrounding Babar Azam ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh have been clarified, with sources confirming that the batter’s condition is not serious.

According to team sources, Babar Azam has been actively participating in practice sessions and did not suffer a major injury.

However, he experienced pain in his left knee during a recent training session, prompting the team management to conduct an MRI scan as a precaution.

Officials stated that the decision to rest Babar Azam for the first Test against Bangladesh national cricket team was made purely for precautionary reasons and not at the player’s request.

Sources further clarified that the star batter did not ask for rest himself; instead, the team management opted to avoid any risk and ensure full recovery before upcoming matches.

Babar Azam is expected to be available for the second Test, which is scheduled to begin on May 16 in Sylhet.
