Britney Spears has been formally charged with driving under the influence (DUI), two months after her arrest in March 2026, according to international media reports.

Court documents filed on Thursday, April 30 confirm that the 44-year-old pop star is facing a misdemeanor charge under California Vehicle Code Section 23152 which relates to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Prosecutors in Ventura County have scheduled her arraignment at Ventura County Superior Court for Monday, May 4. However, it remains unclear whether Spears will appear in person as she is reportedly undergoing rehabilitation treatment.

Legal experts note that as the case is classified as a misdemeanor, her physical presence in court is not mandatory, and her attorney may represent her during proceedings.

Reports further indicate that Spears may be offered a plea arrangement commonly known as “wet reckless,” which allows defendants to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs under specific conditions, typically when there is no prior DUI history or serious incident involved.

The “Womanizer” and “Toxic” singer was arrested on March 4, 2026, after allegedly driving erratically near her residence in California while suspected of being under the influence. She was released on the same day following her arrest.
