Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has said it is prepared to supply liquefied natural gas to Pakistan.

Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has said it is prepared to supply liquefied natural gas to Pakistan, according to a statement given to Reuters on Tuesday, as Pakistan looks for spot cargoes to manage its growing energy shortage.

The company said that a framework agreement signed in 2025 between SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG Limited allows Pakistan to directly purchase LNG cargoes through a faster process.

SOCAR stated that it is ready to provide LNG immediately once Pakistan LNG Limited submits a formal request.

However, the company did not confirm whether such a request has already been made, when the first shipment could arrive, or where the LNG would be sourced from under the agreement.

Pakistan depends heavily on gas for its energy needs and is currently facing challenges due to declining local production and fluctuations in global LNG prices, especially amid supply disruptions linked to tensions involving Iran.
