KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has inaugurated the first modern Command and Control Room established by Community Policing Karachi (CPK) at the office of SSP AVLC, marking a significant step toward strengthening community-based policing in the city.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Home Minister praised the efforts of CPK and reiterated that the Sindh government is taking serious measures to promote community policing.

He said public engagement not only helps reduce crime but also contributes to broader social development.

He announced that a meeting would be arranged between CPK officials and Safe City Project authorities to resolve operational issues on a priority basis.

He further stated that the provincial government would bear the cost of repairing CPK cameras in line with recommendations.

He also announced that Murad Soni would be recommended for a government-level medal in recognition of his services.

Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar directed authorities to intensify action against illegal weapons, unauthorized uniforms, and tinted glass, stating that such elements contribute to crime and must be eliminated.

He added that the government and police are utilizing all available resources to enhance urban security, while AVLC is being upgraded on modern lines to curb vehicle theft and snatching incidents.

Officials briefed the minister that the Command and Control Room has been developed under a public-private partnership model and is equipped with advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.

The system can identify suspicious or criminally linked vehicles within 30 seconds, significantly improving monitoring and response capabilities.

Inspector General of Sindh Javed Alam Odho, speaking at the ceremony, said community policing is an effective model for crime reduction. He noted that integrating modern technology with traditional policing practices is now essential.

He further revealed that cameras will be installed at 40 police stations across Karachi, which is expected to significantly reduce crime rates.

CPK Chief Murad Soni said the initiative was launched with the aim of improving coordination between citizens and law enforcement.

He added that CPK currently operates 18 centers across the city and is working to expand community policing across the province.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to making Karachi a safer, more peaceful, and model city through collaboration between the police and the community.

Senior officials including ACS Home Iqbal Memon, Additional IG Karachi, DIG CIA, and SSP AVLC attended the event.
