Olivia Rodrigo is back and she’s flipping the pop world upside down literally. Her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, drops on June 12, promising a whirlwind of heart, heartbreak, and unapologetic emotion that will hit fans like a sonic tidal wave.

In a bold, cinematic move, Rodrigo wiped her Instagram clean before revealing the album, unveiling a striking cover of herself swinging upside down in a baby pink dress a perfect snapshot of her fearless reinvention. “I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Rodrigo wrote on Instagram. “Available for preorder now!”

Olivia Rodrigo finally announces the You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl album

For this album the 23-year-old superstar teamed up again with producer Dan Nigro, who collaborated on her first two albums. Unlike her previous releases, which followed a one-word naming convention, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love marks a bold departure both stylistically and emotionally.

Rodrigo explained that writing the album while in a joyful state presented a creative challenge. “When you’re experiencing happiness or connected to someone, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems” she said.

The album arrives two and a half years after her sophomore release, Guts, which carried a pop-punk edge distinct from her debut, Sour. Rodrigo and her team have been teasing the new project since winter, including repainting a mural in Los Angeles from purple to light pink alongside a new “OR” logo a visual symbol of her artistic evolution.

Rodrigo first skyrocketed to fame at age 17 with her debut single, Drivers License, which spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a cultural phenomenon. Her early success, along with the acclaimed albums Sour and Guts, earned her seven Grammy nominations and wins for Best New Artist, Pop Vocal Album, and Pop Solo Performance.

Reflecting on her growth as an artist, Rodrigo said:
“This time, I wasn’t 17 years old going through my first heartbreak. I had to sharpen my songwriting skills and my singing skills. It felt like a completely different creative experience.”

With You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, Olivia Rodrigo is not just releasing an album she’s unleashing a new era of storytelling, emotion, and pop-punk magic, solidifying her status as one of the most fearless and captivating voices in music today.
