Pakistan’s exports have increased from under $2 billion in 2013 to around $9.5 billion, says APTMA Chairman

Pakistan’s business community has rejected what it described as negative propaganda against the country’s GSP Plus status, calling on the government to take immediate action against those attempting to undermine the key trade facility.

Speaking at a joint press conference, United Business Group (UBG) Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer, alongside representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), said the continuation of GSP Plus is critical for Pakistan’s economic stability.

He said Pakistan has secured the status for the 2024–2027 period through collective efforts of all stakeholders, stressing that no compromise should be made in its preservation. He noted that the facility has significantly boosted exports and contributed to economic growth.

Acknowledging ongoing economic challenges, Tanveer said the government and relevant institutions are taking steps to improve the situation, while emphasizing the need for additional free trade agreements to further enhance exports.

APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad said Pakistan’s exports have increased from under $2 billion in 2013 to around $9.5 billion, with GSP Plus playing a key role in this growth.

He urged the government to ensure full protection of the status and prioritize national interests to safeguard trade concessions.

Business leaders added that continued engagement between the government and taxpayers both filers and non-filers would help create a stable economic environment.
