KARACHI: The 10th Special Olympics Pakistan Marathon Race 2025 was held in Karachi today, featuring competitive races across multiple categories.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and Olympic medalist Arshad Nadeem were present at the event, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic participants.
The event, organised under the patronage of Governor Tessori, showcased remarkable performances by participants, with winners being announced for both men’s and women’s categories in each race.
The event featured races of 21.2 kilometres, 10km, 5km, and 1km, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds.
In the men’s 21.2km half marathon, Qasim Bajwa emerged victorious, while Faizan Zulfikar secured second place, and Muhammad Sajjad finished third. In the women’s half marathon, Natasha Hassan triumphed, followed by Sahrish Khan in second and Kokab Sarwar in third.
The event also included 10km races where Mahnoor Fatima clinched the title in the women’s category, and Shakir Usman claimed victory in the men’s category. For the 5km race, Qandeel Sultan emerged as the women’s champion, while Muhammad Ziaullah took the men’s title.
Tessori, who graced the event, spoke about the importance of inclusivity and sportsmanship. “People are being given opportunities, and everyone must move forward together,” he said addressing the media at the closing ceremony.
The governor announced that all future races would be organised under the Governor House’s auspices, emphasising the government’s commitment to fostering sports activities.
The marathon featured additional events, including a special children’s walk, where children with special needs actively participated. Governor Tessori commended their spirit and paid tribute to their parents.
Tessori highlighted Pakistan’s peace-loving nature, saying, “We have to show the world that we Pakistanis are peace-loving people.” He further affirmed that the Governor House doors will always be open for sports activities.
Governor Tesori also mentioned his visit to Mian Channu to meet Arshad Nadeem and discussed his decision to support the Special Olympics marathon in Karachi.
Meanwhile, the federal capital also hosted the 5th Islamabad Marathon commenced with 5km, 10km, half, and full marathon races, attracting a large number of runners and spectators.
