Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed the new supreme leader, after the death of his father in the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Tehran: A significant political development has emerged in Iran as the Assembly of Experts has reportedly selected Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new Supreme Leader.
According to Iranian media reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced full loyalty to the newly appointed leader, stating that it will obey all directives issued by the Supreme Leader and is ready to make any sacrifice for the protection of the Islamic Republic.
In its statement, the IRGC described Mojtaba Khamenei’s selection as “the beginning of a new dawn” for the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing confidence that the country’s ideological and defensive strength will grow further under the new leadership.
Meanwhile, Iranian politician Ali Larijani thanked the Assembly of Experts for holding the crucial meeting despite what he described as threats of bombing from US President Donald Trump.
Separately, Iran has claimed that around 200 US troops were killed or injured during the past 24 hours in attacks linked to the escalating regional tensions. According to a news agency report, another US soldier stationed at an American military base in Saudi Arabia has died after being wounded in an Iranian strike.
Iranian officials have also accused Israel of targeting several Iranian oil refineries and storage facilities. Authorities say the Shahran oil depot near Tehran was among the sites hit in the alleged Israeli attacks.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned that the strikes on oil installations have released dangerous and toxic substances into the air, creating serious environmental and humanitarian risks.
Officials added that the spreading toxic fumes could pose health threats to nearby residents, as emergency measures are being taken to address the situation.
