Apple launches budget iPhone 17e and M4-powered iPad Air

Apple Inc. has kicked off a major week of product announcements, unveiling the new iPhone 17e and an upgraded iPad Air, signaling a strategic push to strengthen its presence in both the mid-range and performance device markets.

Apple has launched what appears to be a significant week of product announcements, unveiling a refreshed budget iPhone and an upgraded iPad Air in a strategic move to reinforce its standing across key device categories.

The early reveals suggest a broader hardware expansion aimed at attracting both value-conscious buyers and performance-focused users.

Leading the announcements is the new iPhone 17e, an affordable addition to the iPhone 17 lineup priced at $599 notably below the $799 standard iPhone 17.

The device is positioned to compete more aggressively in the mid-range smartphone market, where Apple faces growing pressure from Samsung, Google, and several Chinese manufacturers, particularly in price-sensitive regions.

Although it retains the familiar 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 17e introduces meaningful upgrades. It features tougher front glass, Apple’s latest A19 chip, the new C1X modem, MagSafe charging support, and 256GB of base storage doubling last year’s entry capacity.

The device also includes Apple Intelligence compatibility, narrowing the feature gap between Apple’s budget and premium models.

Importantly, Apple has kept the starting price unchanged at $599 despite the enhancements. In a market strained by rising component and memory costs, the move signals a deliberate value-driven strategy designed to attract new buyers without disrupting flagship pricing tiers.

The iPhone 17e will be available in pink, black, and white. Preorders open March 4, with retail availability beginning March 11.

In parallel, Apple refreshed the iPad Air, maintaining its design and pricing while upgrading its internal performance.

The tablet now runs on the more advanced M4 chip, replacing the previous M3 processor. The 11-inch model remains priced at $599, while the 13-inch version continues at $799.

Apple claims the M4 chip delivers up to 30% faster performance than its predecessor, alongside improved wireless speeds and enhanced cellular connectivity in supported models.

The update comes as the iPad category demonstrated notable strength during the most recent holiday quarter, with Apple reporting that roughly half of iPad purchasers were first-time buyers.

Rather than introducing a redesign, Apple appears focused on sustaining momentum through performance improvements and ecosystem integration.

Further announcements are expected throughout the week, with reports suggesting retail stores are preparing for increased customer traffic, indicating confidence that at least one upcoming launch could drive substantial mainstream demand.
