Islamabad: Skywatchers across Pakistan are in for a celestial treat today as the first total lunar eclipse of 2026 graces the skies.
The phenomenon, known as the Blood Moon, will be partially visible in Pakistan, while observers in Australia, the United States, and other regions will witness its full glory.
According to the Meteorological Department, the eclipse will commence at 1:44 PM, with the Moon starting its partial shading by 2:50 PM. The total eclipse will officially begin at 4:05 PM, reaching its zenith at 4:34 PM.
The total phase will start to recede at 5:03 PM, the partial phase will end at 6:17 PM, and the spectacular event will conclude by 7:23 PM.
During the eclipse, the Sun, Earth, and Moon align perfectly, casting the Earth’s shadow on the lunar surface. This gives the Moon a mesmerizing crimson hue, earning it the moniker “Blood Moon.” In Pakistan, the Moon will rise already partially eclipsed, creating a stunning visual for enthusiasts.
