Karachi: Sindh Home Minister Zia‑ul‑Hassan Lanjar chaired a high‑level security review at the Central Police Office in Karachi today, where he issued several directives aimed at bolstering law and order across the province.

During the briefing, the IGP outlined the prevailing security landscape, key threats, and current countermeasures being undertaken by law enforcement agencies. Based on the discussion, Minister Lanjar stressed the need to enhance proactive intelligence work  particularly making intelligence reports from border areas more purposeful and operationally effective  so authorities can swiftly counter emerging threats.

To combat militant activity, banned organizations, and sectarian violence, the Home Minister directed the formulation of a coordinated and comprehensive strategy that ensures heightened security at all critical locations, including sensitive installations.

In addition, he emphasised foolproof protection for religious sites such as mosques, madrasas, and imambargahs, to be arranged in close consultation with their administrators.

Minister Lanjar underscored the importance of active field presence by officers rather than remaining office‑bound, and issued instructions to intensify intelligence‑led operations, snap checks, pickets, reconnaissance monitoring, patrolling, and checkpoints across the province.

As part of broadening operational capabilities, he ordered a comprehensive security audit of key installations and tasked officials with submitting detailed resource requirements for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). These needs should include drones, modern vehicles, explosive detectors, and advanced surveillance equipment.

Critically, the Sindh Home Minister directed that drones be deployed for surveillance in potentially sensitive areas of Karachi when necessary and ordered the establishment of a dedicated Drone Surveillance Unit to strengthen aerial monitoring and reconnaissance efforts.

He also highlighted the importance of upgrading and modernising the Special Branch, assigning it a frontline role in counterterrorism efforts and making its intelligence outputs more robust and reliable to ensure lasting peace and stability in the province.

Minister Lanjar stressed that all relevant institutions must maintain law and order through enhanced coordination, proactive planning, and integrated operations. Senior officers present included Additional IGs Karachi, CTD, Special Branch, DIGs CTD and Special Branch, the Chief of the Citizens‑Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), and other key police officials.
