Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday called for a significant boost in trade between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, aiming to increase the bilateral trade volume from the current $250 million to $1 billion within the next year.

The announcement came after Islamabad and Astana signed over 30 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) across key sectors, including petroleum, mining, and maritime affairs.

Addressing a joint press conference following the signing ceremony, PM Shehbaz said the existing trade figures “do not reflect the strength of our friendship and the potential of both countries.” He emphasized the importance of enhancing economic cooperation to fully leverage the strategic partnership.

The day began with a warm reception for Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Prime Minister’s House, where he was greeted with a guard of honour before holding a one-on-one meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif.
