The Las Vegas community is grieving the loss of Shirley “Ms. Shirley” Raines, the founder and CEO of the nonprofit organization Beauty 2 The Streetz, who passed away at the age of 58.
Raines was found unresponsive during a wellness check at her home in Henderson on Tuesday night, her twin sister Sheila confirmed. Family members told TMZ that she had been in good health and was not taking any medication. Authorities have said no foul play is suspected, and an autopsy is pending.
Beauty 2 The Streetz announced her death in an emotional post on Instagram, saying the organization was heartbroken. The nonprofit, which has more than 1.1 million followers on social media, is known for providing beauty, hygiene and wellness services to people experiencing homelessness, especially women and underserved communities.
Raines started Beauty 2 The Streetz in 2018 after going through difficult times in her own life. She often spoke about turning her personal struggles into a mission to help others, saying she understood what it felt like to need support and compassion. In a November interview with News 3, she stressed the importance of treating people with dignity and respect.
Her work received national recognition over the years. Raines was named a CNN Hero and also received an NAACP Award for her humanitarian efforts. Until recently, she remained active in Las Vegas, continuing her outreach work and serving those in need.
As messages of tribute continue to pour in, many are remembering Ms. Shirley as a dedicated and compassionate advocate whose kindness and commitment made a lasting difference in countless lives.
