QUETTA: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed 10 militants during a security operation in Pishin district, while 10 CTD personnel were injured in an exchange of fire, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The details were shared during a joint press conference by Balochistan Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Shahid Rind and DIG CTD Aetazaz Ahmed Goraya.

DIG CTD Aetazaz Goraya stated that a large quantity of weapons and explosives was recovered from the militants during the operation. He said the injured CTD personnel were shifted to medical facilities, where they are receiving treatment.

He added that the terrorists were using explosives commonly employed in mining activities for carrying out acts of terrorism, raising serious concerns over the misuse of such materials. The recovered weapons will be sent for forensic examination to determine their origin.

According to the DIG CTD, the area where the operation was conducted had reportedly been used by elements of Fitna-al-Khawarij, who were actively moving in the region.

He said the militants were given an opportunity to surrender, and mediators were also sent to persuade them to lay down their arms.

However, the terrorists refused to comply, prompting law enforcement agencies to act in accordance with the law.

“We have no desire to take lives, but when terrorists refused to surrender, action was taken under legal procedures,” DIG Goraya said.

He warned that individuals involved in spreading terrorism in the province would be brought to justice and urged militants to lay down their arms and join the national mainstream.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shahid Rind said that anyone who stands against the state will be dealt with an iron hand.

He further stressed that facilitators of terrorism would also be brought to justice, adding that no political pressure would be tolerated in actions against militants.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has paid tribute to the CTD and other law enforcement agencies for successfully eliminating terrorists during an operation in Balochistan.

In a statement issued from the Presidency, the President praised the professional skills and bravery of CTD and security personnel following the killing of 10 terrorists during the operation.

President Zardari also directed the concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the personnel who were injured while performing their duties.

He stated that operations against terrorists are essential for ensuring lasting peace in the country and the region.

The President emphasized that elements acting on foreign instigation to sabotage peace would not be allowed to raise their heads, reaffirming the state’s resolve to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to fully support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to maintain law and order and protect the lives of citizens.
