The Doha Fashion Show has been postponed to March due to regional security concerns, organisers said on Friday, following Qatar’s announcement of precautionary measures at the U.S.-run Al Udeid Air Base amid rising tensions in the region.

The biannual event, originally scheduled to take place from January 19 to January 21, was delayed “out of an abundance of caution” to prioritise the safety of designers, talent, partners, media and guests, organisers said in a statement. The move was also aimed at ensuring a high-quality experience for participants and attendees.

On Wednesday, Qatar’s International Media Office said precautionary steps had been taken at Al Udeid Air Base, including the temporary departure of some personnel, as part of broader efforts to safeguard citizens, residents and critical infrastructure. The security warning level at the base was lowered a day later, according to three sources briefed on the matter.

Launched to position Qatar as a regional hub for luxury, fashion and creative industries, the Doha Fashion Show features runway presentations, designer showcases and industry networking, with a particular focus on emerging talent.

The event forms part of Qatar’s wider strategy to diversify its economy beyond energy, alongside investments in tourism, sports, culture and the arts.
