In a jaw-dropping upset that shook French football, Paris Saint-Germain crashed out of the French Cup, falling 1-0 to city rivals Paris FC just days after lifting their fourth consecutive French Super Cup.

The defending champions, dominating possession but failing to finish, were undone by former academy star Jonathan Ikone, who struck the decisive goal in a night PSG fans won’t soon forget.

Senny Mayulu, PSG’s midfielder, described the defeat as a “slap in the face” after the defending French Cup champions were eliminated in the round of 32 on Monday.

Just four days after their Super Cup triumph, PSG were humbled at the Parc des Princes by a Paris FC side returning to Ligue 1 after a 46-year absence, proving that even giants can stumble.

Deepening PSG’s disappointment, the decisive goal came from Jonathan Ikone, a former PSG academy product, who netted in the 74th minute but chose not to celebrate out of respect for his old club.

“We controlled the game and created chances but failed to convert,” Mayulu said. “It’s a tough wake-up call, but we’ll regroup and focus on reclaiming top spot in Ligue 1. Training intensity won’t drop we’ll fight on all fronts.”

Paris FC, currently 15th in Ligue 1, just four points above the relegation zone, now carry a huge morale boost, while PSG trail surprise leaders Lens by a single point.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique admitted the result was frustrating but insisted his team’s effort deserved more.
“It’s the nature of knockout football domination alone isn’t enough,” Enrique said. “We have to accept it, but we’ll come back stronger.”
