Apple and Google have announced a strategic collaboration to integrate Google’s cutting-edge Gemini AI models into Apple’s suite of intelligence features, including a next-generation overhaul of Siri.

The partnership is designed to provide the computational backbone required to power a highly responsive, context-aware, and personalized virtual assistant, addressing Apple’s historical challenges in delivering on its AI ambitions set in 2024.

In a joint statement shared with Axios, both companies confirmed that Apple’s upcoming foundation models will leverage Gemini AI technology hosted via Google Cloud, stating:

“These models will underpin future Apple Intelligence capabilities, including an enhanced and more personalized Siri, launching later this year.”

Apple turns to Google’s Gemini to deliver long-awaited Siri revamp in 2026

The collaboration, reportedly in development since last year, follows prolonged delays in deploying Siri’s AI enhancements. It highlights Apple’s strategic pivot toward leveraging external, scalable AI architectures rather than relying solely on internal R&D.

“After rigorous evaluation, Apple concluded that Google’s AI stack provides the most scalable and advanced foundation for Apple Foundation Models,” the statement added.

Industry benchmarks indicate that Gemini has surpassed ChatGPT in performance metrics, making it the optimal choice for Apple, which has historically lagged behind competitors in machine learning-powered virtual assistants.

This collaboration underscores a paradigm shift in the AI ecosystem, signaling that even tech titans recognize the efficiency and capability of massive, pre-trained AI architectures over isolated internal models.

Apple also emphasized that Gemini-powered models will run on-device or via Apple’s proprietary servers, ensuring the company’s stringent privacy protocols and end-to-end data security are fully maintained.

This initiative positions Apple to deliver a next-generation Siri in 2026 with enhanced natural language understanding, contextual awareness, and adaptive personalization, setting a new benchmark in AI-driven user experiences.
