China rejects US military options in response to Iranian protests

BEIJING: China has voiced opposition to any potential US military action against Iran in response to ongoing protests, emphasizing respect for national sovereignty and international law.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that China always opposes interference in the internal affairs of other countries and the use of force in international relations.

The statement highlighted that the protection of sovereignty and security must be ensured under international law, and expressed hope that the Iranian government and people can manage the current challenging situation and maintain national stability.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor emphasized that violence in Iran must end, describing it as a sign of weakness rather than strength.

The remarks come after US President Donald Trump said that multiple options, including military action, are being considered against Iran. Speaking on a flight from Florida to Washington, DC, Trump added that the US is in contact with Iranian opposition leaders and that discussions regarding the nuclear deal could take place.

President Trump reiterated that all options, including military measures, remain under consideration to address the situation in Iran.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused unnamed “foreign-backed elements” of deliberately turning nationwide protests violent in order to provide the United States with a pretext for military intervention.

Speaking to foreign diplomats in Tehran on Monday, Araghchi said demonstrations that have gripped the country for three weeks escalated into “bloody” violence over the weekend but insisted the situation is now “under total control.” He linked the surge in violence to warnings by US President Donald Trump, who has threatened military action should unrest in Iran become violent.

“Trump’s statements encouraged terrorists to attack both protesters and security forces to create conditions for foreign intervention,” Araghchi said, adding that Iran is “ready for war but also for dialogue.”
