Pakistan could finally see relief in petrol prices as global oil rates continue to decline, raising hopes of a reduction of up to Rs5 per litre in domestic fuel prices.

According to industry estimates, petrol prices are expected to decrease by Rs4 to Rs5 per litre in the second half of January 2026. Diesel prices may also see a cut of around Rs2 to Rs3 per litre if the current trend in international markets continues.

The expected reduction is mainly driven by a fall in global oil prices along with favorable local adjustments. Customs duty on petrol has been reduced by 72 paisas per litre, while exchange rate adjustments have declined by 68 paisas per litre. Combined, these factors have pushed the ex-refinery price of petrol down by Rs6.51 per litre, from Rs145.57 to Rs139.06.

Diesel prices are also moving downward. The global price of diesel has dropped by $2.33 per barrel, falling from $76.32 to $73.99. On the domestic front, customs duty on diesel has been cut by 80 paisas per litre, while exchange rate adjustments have decreased by 35 paisas per litre. As a result, the ex-refinery price of diesel has fallen by Rs5.33 per litre, from Rs155.33 to Rs149.99.

If these trends persist until the next price review, consumers across Pakistan may benefit from lower fuel prices, providing some much-needed relief amid ongoing economic pressures.
