Pakistan has strongly denounced Israel’s controversial recognition of Somaliland, reiterating its unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, speaking at the extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, described Israel’s move as illegal, illegitimate, and “extremely alarming,” cautioning that it threatens peace in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

Dar emphasized that the visit of Israel’s foreign minister to Somaliland constitutes a direct challenge to Somalia’s internationally recognized borders.

He stressed that under international law, no external entity or state has the legal or moral authority to undermine Somalia’s stability, and any such action carries no legal or political legitimacy. Pakistan has also condemned the measure at the United Nations, highlighting that it violates international law and the UN Charter.

Highlighting Somalia’s progress, Dar praised the country’s strides in national reconciliation, constitutional reforms, and institutional strengthening. He underscored that transparent economic reforms and elections based on public voting are essential markers of Somalia’s development.

Pakistan lauded the sacrifices of Somali citizens and security forces and stressed that no attempt to impede Somalia’s growth and stability will be tolerated.

Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

He confirmed that Pakistan will continue to collaborate with the OIC and Arab nations to support Palestinian self-determination, while noting that the Kashmir dispute continues to heighten tensions in South Asia.

OIC members unanimously expressed support for Somalia’s territorial integrity. Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha called Israel’s recognition of Somaliland a violation of international law.

Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Elkhereiji condemned all attempts to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty. Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian and the Turkish representative reaffirmed unwavering backing for Somalia’s unity.

Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali asserted that Somaliland remains an integral part of federal Somalia, warning that any infringement of Somali borders constitutes a violation of sovereignty.

By taking a firm and decisive stance, Pakistan has reinforced its role as a vocal defender of international law, regional stability, and the legitimate sovereignty of nations confronting provocative actions.
