Health experts have highlighted the harmful effects of overeating on both the brain and the body, warning that even occasional excessive eating can negatively impact overall health.

Overeating is common during festivals and special occasions, especially when tempting foods such as samosas, meat sausages, and potato-based dishes are readily available. However, experts say that even short-term overeating can have lasting consequences if it becomes a habit.

According to health specialists, overeating can impair brain function, leading to a decline in memory and cognitive abilities. It may also cause negative changes in the brain that create an unhealthy relationship between food and the individual.

A study conducted by Harvard University in 2012 found that excessive food intake can reduce brain performance. High calorie consumption increases the risk of memory loss and may also lead to insulin resistance, a condition that raises the risk of developing diabetes.

Experts explained that insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, making it difficult to control blood sugar levels. If this condition persists, the pancreas may fail to produce enough insulin, further increasing the risk of diabetes.

In addition to its effects on brain health, overeating can cause several physical problems, including nausea, heartburn, acidity, fatigue, and digestive issues such as bloating and discomfort.
