New Delhi: A troubling wave of negligence in Indian civil aviation has put millions of passengers at risk.

Reports reveal that poor mental health screening and mounting stress among pilots are creating serious safety threats.

The issue came to light when Air India Express pilot Virender Sejwal allegedly assaulted a passenger at Delhi Airport over a minor boarding-line dispute, leaving the victim injured. Incidents like this highlight the mounting pressure and psychological strain faced by pilots entrusted with hundreds of lives.

Even before the Ahmedabad crash, some Air India pilots were reportedly struggling with depression and other mental health challenges, yet were cleared to fly raising questions about the airline’s safety protocols.

The crisis adds to India’s aviation woes, following the Tejas aircraft crash at the Dubai Airshow and previous operational lapses of the Indian Air Force.

Experts warn that mentally stressed pilots in civil aviation are exposing the country to another global embarrassment, putting passenger safety on the line.
