A test train collision in southwest China’s Yunnan province left 11 railway workers dead and two others injured early on November 27, according to Chinese media reports.
The incident occurred at a curved section of track near Luoyangzhen Station in Kunming, the provincial capital, when Test Train No. 55537—used for seismic equipment testing—struck a group of construction workers who were entering the track area.
Local outlets reported that the workers had been carrying out construction tasks at the time of the collision.
Initial reports from Kunming Lvyang Station indicated that the train involved was an earthquake-inspection train operating as part of routine testing. The collision happened in low-light early morning conditions.
In response, railway authorities and local government officials immediately launched emergency operations, coordinating rescue efforts and medical assistance. The two injured workers were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Station activities have since resumed.
